END OF DAY REPORT - 'from the team out there'

Well, so here we are again.  247 miles today, and it all started like this.....

We began refreshed from a superb hotel (which was on the beach) and breakfast - eat as much as you can eat, almost!  The weather was cloudy initially, but soon warmed up, and with Terry and Eileen leading the way, the route  and commentary were never dull!  There was one local couple who joined us for the initial part of the route, and so to start there were 8 cars.

The route took us along the coastal route through Dover and Folkestone, and then to Dungeness where a thick sea mist threatened to hide the nuclear power station almost completely - who would have believed it!?

There followed some great roads, although Steve didn't get to appreciate them as Lizzie was driving..it didn't stop him from trying to continue his role as the controller though!  Control Freak? You wouldn't believe it!

Eileen and Terry directed us all the way to Beachy Head, and despite continued disruption from very slow moving tour buses, we made good progress..There was a stop at the cliff tops for some spectacular photos....and Chris and Gary seemed to get somewhat carried away with the view, although Gary says that she was only holding onto his legs to stop him from falling over the edge!! Honestly!

After setting off from Beachy Head, we thought that the local council must have known that we were coming as they had put BEWARE OF BADGERS signs all over the roads...(or is someone else trying to tell you something Andy!)

Eileen was worried about her navigational skills, but we were actually more on time today than ever before!  Did anyone mention that this holiday could take three weeks rather than just two!

We collected Derek from the Wessex Club at Fareham, and this was a godsend as he altered our route to avoid the grotty areas, although all the locals with 5's were right miserable....you would think they didn't know how to wave, but by the end of the convoy they had suddenly regained the use of their arms!  A special thank you goes out to the traffic warden who did actually wave and smile to the whole of the group, and then gave out a ticket!

We got a ferry across Poole harbour which was an excellent shortcut, and we then travelled across Ministry of Defence roads which would have been excellent had it not been for the fog. At least we couldn't see them shooting at us!

We eventually arrived at the Weld Arms to a most welcome BBQ organised by the Wessex club, but unfortunately this was clouded by the dismal performance of England against Portugal.  However the pub was fantastic with a very accommodating landlord, Chris Parker, who gave us use of his telephone line as none of the mobiles would work.

Bit of a later start tomorrow as breakfast isn't until 8.30, but we'll still write tomorrow night with the latest gossip!
