END OF DAY REPORT - 'from the team out there'

Ten cars started the epic journey that would take us past the central point of out journey...325 miles to be precise and it was not a moment too soon that we reached the B&B at Blackpool, otherwise Gary would have had to unscrew the top of his empty Lucozade bottle!

We are sorry that there is not a lot written today but massive mileage and strict time constraints meant that the distance was covered in various different ways.

The weather was wonderful - absolutely boiling and by 9.30 we were already slapping suncream on our lobster style bodies...

The convoy set off together around Cardigan Bay, but were unfortunately split up due to slow drivers and fast Welsh roads down the Dovey Valley around Barmouth Bay, and  eventually re-convened at Barmouth... after ice-cream and a toilet stop, the smaller convoy was en route.  However, the highlight of the stop was when two old fogies from Shipley whilst on holiday started chatting to John Mason and John Cookson, and was heard to remark "So are you two on your honeymoon then!?!"

After departing this new found 'pink' town the convoy split into two distinct groups of five cars - the first (M&C, Gazza, Jules and Ian) blasted off and decided to cover the rest of Gwynedd and head for the Great Orme.

The second group amalgamated over several hours - first John set off and had to stop to order a part from Mazda Carlisle, (even though the fix that Tony and the rest of the service crew from  Eastgate Mazda, Bristol, did was still holding out and we are sure that it would last the the rest of the holiday) who insisted on a VIN number for a radiator plug which caught Steve and Liz's eye as his bonnet was up. Then we convoyed together to Pwllheli where we met up with Chris C and John Fowler who were passed by the first group en route through the Lleyn Peninsular.

Anyway the second group somehow met up with John Cookson (NW Co-ordinator) at Llanbedrog who took us through a brilliant back street route towards Bardsey Island and back up to Caernarfon. Many thanks for that John. Then on route to the Great Orme along A55 we met up with Jack and his wife from NW who took us into Great Orme and back out along the coast towards Colwyn Bay.

We then had to catch up on schedule and pass though Liverpool quickly through the KW Tunnel - slight problem arose at the Toll booths when John M had to go through the Manned booth change a fiver and didn't realise that he had to use that change to raise the barrier and sat waiting for several minutes until PC Plod tapped him on the shoulder and told him the score.

Jules went the wrong way and ended up in the red light area of Liverpool!! He was offered allsorts for a 'drive' in his car!!

Once regrouped Chris Cook took over taking the convoy through Southport, Lytham (where he spent many happy months in gainful employment at the aircraft factory) and Blackpool finishing up along the Golden Mile.

The scenery, sunny weather and great driving roads made this one hell of a day to remember.

Again thanks to the locals for there assistance, it means everything to us, we really appreciate it.
