The Rally will be held over the weekend of 16th & 17th May 2009 and will be based in the Wetherby, York and surrounding areas. Like any other Area of the Club we are blessed with a local history that is known to many and so we have endeavoured to capture your imagination in the themed Saturday Drives featuring scenes made famous by the Bronte Sisters, Heartbeat Country and also Abbey Ruins. So whether you choose to see where Emily was inspired to write Wuthering Heights, visit the Aidensfield Arms and Scripps Garage or simply wonder how much more majestic the abbeys might have been if Henry VIII had decided that Dissolution was not the answer, don’t forget your camera and we hope you will not be disappointed.
Not for you? Need something a little more thrilling? Why not sign up for the Saturday Trackday at Elvington.
When you add it all up, it can be quite expensive for the weekend but if you really fancy treating yourselves, why not book into the Wetherby Ramada Hotel and the Rally Dinner on Saturday night.
Sunday takes us back to Elvington but have no fear, it’s not all about petrol heads and track events, although they can feature quite heavily for those that choose that course of action. The main attraction is the Yorkshire Air Museum which is conveniently attached to the Airfield. There should be a good few hours worth of exploring to do around the museums exhibition hangers, tin huts and fully functioning NAAFI with hot food and drinks. it really is a blast from the past with plenty to see and do. The airfield provides us with hard standing car parking and the runway will be home to some fun-for-all-to-try track events. In between touring the Museum, grabbing a meal or just a burger, hunting down a bargain from traders or simply breathing in the fresh Yorkshire air, there will be competitions. These include Cool 5, Hot 5, Top Rear Gunner, Top Marksman, Fastest Quarter Mile and Fastest Non-Star in a Reasonably Priced Sports Car, making it an event to remember.
